Abstract: Within feminist circles, an on-going debate exists regarding representations of women's bodies. Often, this question centers on whether or not women's bodies can be pictured in a way that is somehow liberatory, or if women's bodies displayed for viewing are always objects, thus oppressive and essentializing. Drawing on Kevin DeLuca's theory of image events, I analyze PETA's anti-fur campaign in order to discover the implications of an environmental movement shaped primarily by images.
